Roaring Lion

From the 17 to the 28 September 1984 the 1 (BE) Corps organized big maneuvers in the area of Warburg, west of Kassel. These operations implied no less than 23,000 men (among whom 19,500 Belgians, 3,000 Americans and 500 Germans), 5,700 wheeled vehicles, 1,500 tracked vehicles and 270 motorcycles. Enjoy it.

    grossartige bilder aus den guten alten tagen! belgier waren leider nie zu sehen bei mir in der gegend aber bei der galerie bekomme ich einen guten eindruck davon was da los war!

    Hi Christian….thank you for this great Pictures from Exercise “Roaring Lion”. Excellent quality for this Time in Cold War 1984. Black/white images have a very special appeal. I look forward to the next part!! Fantastic that you provide us these pictures!!

    Hallo Christian ,auch dieser Teil von dir ist wieder sensationell . Der SPZ Marder mit dem M151 Schiedsrichter Jeep der US . ARMY daneben ,das ist einfach ein grandioses Foto . Aber auch das Belgische Grad , einfach Super . Was ist mit dem Belgischen Schützenpanzer , warum qualmt der so ? Und welcher Hersteller, bzw welche Marke hatte das Belgische Grad ? Wäre toll wenn du noch diese 2 Fragen beantworten könntest . Vielen Dank fürs einstellen dieser tollen Übung . Ich freue mich schon auf den nächsten Teil .

      Hi Alwin,

      Unfortunately, my German language skill is near zero. I understand your question about the smoking AMX. At the time, 1984, the AMX vehicles were in use for 20 years and they were prone to a lot of problems, especially with the power pack? So it is more than probably the source of the smoke we are seeing. I have not understood your second question, so if you can ask me again in English or if someone can help with the translation…

        I do not speak very good English . But i try to write question 2 again in English . What brand did the Belgion Krad have ? Thank you for your Feedback to me .

          I do not understand the meaning of «Krad» ? Give me the number of the photo and I will try to understand 😉

            the number of photos is 13 and 15 . The name Krad means military motor bike . many thanks for your effort .

            Hi Alwin. Ok I get it ;-)) It is a CanAm Bombardier 250cc from Canada. They were produced for the Canadian, British and Belgian army.

    ich fühle mich in eine Zeit versetzt, die ich besonders schön in Erinnerung habe. Und meine Belgischen Freunde so toll festgehalten grenzt ja fast an ein Wunder, ich danke Ihnen.
